What a jewel of a book. I have never read any of J.L. Madore's books
before, but I'm so happy that I have read this one. The realms are so
beautiful and I feel like I'm right there with all of the wonderful characters.
All of the characters are brilliant and our Blaze is charismatic, loveable,
and my kind of woman. I love her adopted family the old and new.
I cannot wait to read more of these stories.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to write a review. There is no better indicator to readers about whether or not to spend their time on an author's stories. Rave or critical, I am always thrilled and grateful to hear what readers think.

Sexy New Covers for my Romance Peeps

While I love, love, love the artistic, fantasy covers designed by David Wysotski, I've decided to go with a sexier, romance focused look for the Scourge Survivor Series. My thanks to Sarah Hansen for her work on Jade's, Mika's, and Lexi's covers. What do you think?

Author Signing at Oshawa Chapters - May 30

Hi all, It's been a busy spring and I can't believe it's May already. Book three of the Scourge Survivor Series is with my editors and is slated to be released mid-summer. In the meantime, I've been asked to do an author signing at the Oshawa Chapters. If you live in the Durham Region and have the inclination, I would be thrilled to see you there.

Saturday May 30th - 12-4pm

See you there!

Happy New Year to All!

2015 is off to an exciting start and I look forward to all the events and opportunities on the horizon:

  • The cover for Lexi's story, Torrent of Tears, is almost complete and I've spoken to my fabulous editorial team (Ruth and Gwynn at Writescape) and they're ready and awaiting the MS to start work on final edits.
  • On February 2nd, I'm road tripping with two fun ladies to Charleston, South Carolina to attend a 4 day conference with Christopher Vogler, James Scott Bell and Donald Maass: The Masters of Fiction Craft. Can't wait.
  • Watcher Untethered has been getting a lot of attention and accolades and there will be release info coming out in the next few months
  • And.....as an author the most exciting thing is to have a new story dancing in my head. I'm busy researching and dying to start writing out a story that is now quite urgently wrestling for my attention. Stay tuned for updates on that.
  • Lot's on the horizon, newsletters, book tours, new releases....Happy 2015 everyone!

Watcher Untethered Update

July 7, 2014

Last night I was sent the results of the Toronto Romance Writers- Catherine Writing contest. And though my entry, Watcher Untethered didn't win in the Paranormal Romance category, it did place in the top five and I recieved some incredible feedback from the three judges who reviewed my submission and three book synopsis. I wanted to share some of the comments with you.

Judge #11 wrote:  Love, Love, Love this book. Very well thought out and intriguing storyline. You opened in the action, continued with a chase, showcasing your hero as a protector of women stopping at nothing to protect even a stranger in the grasp of evil. Awesome.

I loved this book. I loved the hero. I loved the storyline. The writing is excellent. The pacing is great. I was drawn in from the opening line, reading straight through until the end of what was given. And I believe I made a frustrated noise when there was no more to read. :)

Judge #14 wrote: I loved this entry. I’m absolutely your target audience. It’s got everything I loved about Buffy, but updated for today. I think your voice is stellar. If you are planning on going the traditional publishing route, you may encounter some rejection because it is different and fresh, but do your research on agents/editors and keep trying. Eventually you will find someone who loves this as much as I do. I was wowed by the voice. I love language and wordplay and would happily read anything you wrote.

As an objective judge, I believe this will sell and do very well. Normally, I’d give the advice I was given a while back—don’t write Book #2 in a series until Book #1 sells--but I think this is going to sell so go ahead and get it ready.

Judge #74 wrote: I liked the writing. It was descriptive; the backstory was skillfully woven into the narrative/internal musings. Good use of senses. Transition of povs was well-done. The opening drew me right into the story. Both the hero and heroine feel dimensional/real and their actions believable. I liked Zander, and Austin came across as a strong/likeable heroine.

I'm still actively shopping the story around and look forward to getting out to the world.

URSA UNEARTHED is on Amazon!

June 9th, 2014

For all those fans of Blaze Ignites that have been asking about the next installment of the Scourge Survivor Series, it's here! I've posted Ursa Unearthed to Amazon exclusively for 90 days and then we'll see if I expand or if I stay only there.

Wanna know what it's about??? Read on.

Mika’s life has never been normal, but it’s hers.

After being told by the Great Spirit that her destiny is to stand up for the Earth Mother’s children and “save the great species from extinction,” she buries herself in an investigative journalism career hunting down poachers and exposing illegal trade in wildlife exotics. A survivor by nature, she would rather fight injustice than maneuver the hassles and heartache of relationships anyway.

When danger suddenly finds her unprepared, Mika’s perception of her life is shattered and she’s hurled into a realm of magic and murder she does not understand. Seduced by Bruin, the powerful and sexy warrior who saves her life, Mika is catapulted into a world where Were-creatures and Scourge assassins threaten not only her life but her heart as well.

With the boundary between worlds crumbling, Mika realizes that committing to save the great species will draw her deeper into a reality more terrifying to her than anything she’s faced before.

Trusting in love.

I hope you love Bruin and Mika as much as I do.

EXCITING NEWS for Diana Gabaldon Outlander Fans!

June 5, 2014

The OutlanderSeries will debut in Canada on Showcase Sunday, August 24! Circle the date on your calendar or set your PVR, because this is the show that's going to have everyone talking!

 I admit it. I'm a Heughligan

March 3, 2014

Heughligans: Fans of Sam Heughan, recently cast as Jamie Fraser for the TV Series adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series.

For those romance fans, like me, who have had the commitment to wade through the voluminous pages of the Outlander series just to get their fix of Jamie Fraser, the reward continues. Starz is adapting the Romance/Sci-fi/Historical/Suspense mash up novels into a television series set to air this summer. The production is underway and the promotion has begun. Over the past weekend, I drowned myself in the trailers, interviews, specials and humourous Gaelic lessons and am now even more excited for the coming series.

In my opinion, Sam Heughan is a wonderful representation of Jamie. Physically, he's strong, tall and Scottish, but his sense of humour and self-depreciating humbleness is very much in line with Jamie as well. Well done Starz.

Romance Writer's of America - 2014 RITA Contest

Jan 23, 2014

This week I recieved the eight books that I am to read and rate for the 2014 RITA Contest. As a contestant in the 'Paranormal Romance' and 'First Novel' catagories myself, it is my privilage to help evaluate eight novels in the first round of judging. I'm excited to see what the RWA has sent me and eager to dive in and read the work of my fellow romance novelists.

So, kudos to all those who entered and good luck to us all.

Congrats to Kelley Armstrong

Bitten by Kelley Armstrong

Jan 12, 2014

Congratulations to Kelley Armstrong on the premier of her BITTEN television series last night on Space and tomorrow night on Syfy network. Loved the book and wish her all the best in expanding into a new media. Very exciting.

For those of us who've had the pleasure to meet and speak with Kelley about her writing and her books, you'll agree, this is well deserved success to a wonderful woman and talented local author.

A fun night of talking self-pub eBooks

Thanks again to Colleen of the Writers' Community of Simcoe County and the folks at the Barrie Library for hosting the eBook panel on Nov 18th and for inviting me to speak. We had a great couple of hours and, aside from the slushy driving conditions, everything went wonderfully. Thanks also to my co-panelists, Heather Down of Wintertickle Press and Lisa Llamrei, author of Reflection of the Gods.

Everything has Potential

November 14, 2013

My family often laughs when I stop what we're doing and pull out my pad and pencil. It doesn't matter where we are—in the movie theatre, in the car, in a restaurant, or just hanging out in the living room watching TV—if I hear a one liner, a play on words, or just one word that makes me think of one of my characters or makes me laugh, I write it down. Quickly before it's lost.

Now, this recording of verbal gems is different from the times I see a scene unfolding and need to capture the nebulous ideas of plot and character before they evaporate from my jumbled mind. Or when I wake in the morning and the troubles I'd been having with my story seem to have worked themselves out miraculously as I slept and I'm filled with solutions at the crack of dawn.

No, the jotting down of real-life tidbits is more like recording inspiration. It's a launching point for another day—a prompt for later. These ideas spark my creativity, humour or a new direction which I might have overlooked. They get me going, and if they still make me laugh when I read them days, weeks or months later, I rework them to my own style and into my story they go.

God forbid anyone in the household recycle a scrap of paper, because inspiration could be scribbled anywhere: on envelopes, bank slips, grocery receipts, and occasionally I even get a few onto note pads. And as you can imagine, after years of this habit, the paper mountain is teetering.

The trick is—whether you're an aspiring writer or seasoned—keep your eyes and ears open as you move through your day. Last week, I was in Walmart with my daughter and a little girl walking towards us said something to her mom that made both of us crack up. She was obviously getting ready to have a party—her fourth birthday I'd guess by the size of her—and she said in such a grown up voice. "Oh mommy, I just want everything to be perrrrfect."

Whether it's a couple having a blow-out, down and dirty arguement in a Wendy's parking lot or a conversation between fans at the soccer field, if it smacks of real life, drama, wit or humour—I jot it down. Everything has potential.

Have you ever laughed out loud from someone else's conversation and thought, 'That's a good one'? Well, write it down for later. You never know where you'll find inspiration.
